About Service Tasmania
Service Tasmania is the Tasmanian Government’s primary customer service network, providing a single point of contact for a wide range of state government services. Through its service centres, phone support and online portal at service.tas.gov.au, it processes payments and applications for vehicle registration and licensing, fines and infringements, fishing and boating licences, Parks passes, land tax and rates for some councils, and other government fees. Payments are usually processed on behalf of government agencies such as the Department of State Growth (Transport Services), Tasmania Police, Parks and Wildlife Service, and Revenue Tasmania.
A Service Tasmania charge may appear on your bank or card statement when you pay a government bill or fee in person, over the phone, or online using a debit/credit card. This can include renewing your car registration, paying a driver licence renewal, settling a fine or infringement notice, purchasing a Parks pass, paying land tax or certain property-related fees, or lodging other state government transactions. You may also see separate charges for multiple transactions made in one visit, and in some cases a temporary card authorisation may appear before the final payment is processed.
If you’re unsure about a Service Tasmania charge, start by checking recent vehicle rego or licence renewals, fines, or other government payments you may have made in the past 4–8 weeks. Match the amount and date against any receipts, emails, or SMS confirmations you received from Service Tasmania or the relevant agency. For further help, you can visit service.tas.gov.au or call the Service Tasmania phone line (commonly 1300 13 55 13) with your transaction date, amount, and the last four digits of the card used so they can help identify the payment; for questions about changing or refunding a payment, you may be directed to the specific agency (e.g. Transport, Parks, Revenue Tasmania) that the money was paid to.
