About IGA
IGA (Independent Grocers of Australia) is a national network of independently owned and operated supermarkets that trade under the IGA brand. Stores range from local convenience-sized outlets to larger Supa IGA supermarkets offering full grocery ranges, fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, bakery, dairy, frozen food, liquor (in participating stores), and everyday household items. While the IGA banner and core ranges are coordinated nationally by Metcash, each store is locally owned, sets many of its own prices, and may run its own in-store promotions, loyalty offers, and delivery or click & collect services. The national website at iga.com.au provides store locators, weekly specials, and information on participating programs, but day‑to‑day operations and charges come from the individual store you shopped at.
An IGA charge will usually appear on your bank or card statement after you make an in‑store purchase (via EFTPOS, debit, or credit card) or place an online order for delivery or click & collect with a participating IGA store. The description may show as “IGA”, “SUPA IGA”, or include the suburb/store name (for example, “DUNSBOROUGH SUPA IGA” or similar), depending on how the store’s payment terminal is configured. You may also see a separate charge for liquor if the liquor department runs on a different merchant ID, or a temporary authorization hold for online or large in‑store transactions where the final total is confirmed later (for example, when weighted produce, substitutions, or delivery fees are finalized). Some stores use third‑party delivery platforms, in which case the charge may still reference IGA alongside the delivery partner.
To verify an IGA charge, first match the transaction date and location to any recent grocery or liquor shopping you (or a family member with access to your card) may have done, including small top‑up shops, fuel‑station IGA outlets, or online orders. Check your email for order confirmations or e‑receipts if you shop online, or paper receipts if you keep them; the store name, date, and amount should align with what appears on your statement. If you still have questions, use the store locator at iga.com.au to find the phone number of the specific store named on your statement and contact them directly with the transaction date, exact amount, and the last four digits of your card so they can look it up on their EFTPOS system. For suspected errors, double charges, or unrecognized transactions, contact both the store and your bank or card provider promptly to dispute or investigate the charge.
