About Unknown Merchant (Bank Interface Text)
The string “Edit |Dispute This Charge” is not the name of a business. It is standard user-interface text used by many banks and credit card providers on their online or mobile banking platforms. These words usually appear as buttons or links next to a transaction, allowing you to modify how it appears in your records (for example, adding a note or category) or to start a formal dispute if you believe the charge is incorrect or fraudulent.
If you see “Edit |Dispute This Charge” on a statement screenshot, export, or in a data feed, it is almost certainly a labeling artifact from the bank’s interface rather than the actual merchant descriptor. The *real* merchant name will typically appear elsewhere in that line or record, often before or after the amount, date, or transaction ID. This text itself does not correspond to any company, subscription, or purchase, so it would not generate its own separate charge.
To resolve questions about a specific charge, look for the actual merchant descriptor (for example, “UBER *TRIP” or “AMZN MKTP US*”). If you still can’t identify the merchant, log into your bank or card app and use the genuine “Dispute this charge” option, or contact your bank’s customer service using the phone number on the back of your card. They can help you identify the underlying transaction and, if needed, start a dispute or fraud investigation.
